Yesterday’s IRT Get Together Was A……….!

…..Yesterday’s IRT get together was a blast!  So much so that I even forgot to take pictures.  In general that is a defining thing for a party because when you are having that much fun then other things like pictures, etc. are completely unimportant.  It was good to see practitioner’s and their families from Alma to Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro Area.  We missed Big Tim and his wife from Chicago but that was expected as he had some surgery during the week.  Anyways, it was a great time with good food and good friends!  That is in the end one of the things that training is all about ie. having good friends who you can share your passion with!

Managing Your Time!

…..One of the harder things to do in life is to manage your time effectively so that you can get in your martial science training while not effecting other parts of your life.  Time management is an essential skill set because in order to train we must make sure that our work is done, family is taken care of and that any other issue has been dealt with and resolved.  Quite often I am pulled in ten to fifteen different directions or more through out the typical day.  I manage my time by writing down where I need to be and by doing this I keep a pretty effective note book.  This has worked for me pretty well and I only seem to get out of sorts when I do not follow this method.  Still in the past I have also relied solely on memory and that worked well until my kid’s got a little older. ;)

…..Time management is an essential skill set because if you do it well you should have plenty of time for training and even more for those special opportunities.

Music With Your Work Out!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 28, 2009 by Brian VanCise

…..Well one thing that can really add a boost to your work out is to have a little music playing in the background.  Music can really fuel your performance.  I particularly like to listen to music when lifting with the kettle bells or doing push ups or sit ups.  Definitely a good way to help get you in the groove and get you to push yourself!  Every now and then when practicing martial science I will put in some Indonesian music and practice my foot work, etc.  I tend not to have music blaring during class though I have in the past.  Why?  Well some times it has been hard for the practitioner’s training to concentrate and also to hear the instructions.  Still I do enjoy sparring with music, rolling with music and of course solo training and weight lifting to music!  Definitely that can be good for the soul!

Ambush Style Knife Attacks!

shank or shiv

…..Okay here you can see a prison style shank (knife) attack.  As you can see the attacking prisoner ambushes the other prisoner.  Ambushing knife attacks are some thing to watch out for you need to feel the intention and if you do then respond in some manner.

….. Okay here is a nice clip featuring Grandmaster Jerson Tortal Jr. the son of Grandmaster Jerson “Nene” Tortal.   Here he is training the Philippine National Police Special Action Force the art of Dekiti Tirsia Siradas. I find it always good to see martial practitioner’s teaching military, police, etc.  The depth of our understanding is usually quite a bit deeper than a typical defensive tactics instructor.
