Archery skills have been around a long, long, long time. Humans have been perfecting our ability to shoot with a bow throughout most of the course of our history. This is a tool that over time has allowed us to conquer this planet and while it is now a lesser tool it is still a skill set that every martial science practitioner should know.
the ability to sight in on a target is a skill set that is transferable to other tools and something that can still be used for hunting or protection. Archery is a very fine skill and takes time to develop. The ability to sight in, release in a relaxed manner and with follow through is essential. Personally I love shooting our recurve bows as they are a blast and well just lots of fun to shoot. This styles of bow has been around a long, long time. So it is a traditional kind of bow. While recurves are a blast and alot of fun shooting a modern compound bow is a whole different animal. The modern compound bow has alot more things to help in your shooting but of course that also means that more can go wrong. Still with modern sights and release mechanisms you can generally get the same shot off the same way again and again in an easier manner than a recurve. I also enjoy shooting my crossbow. Crossbows came about and were invented by the Chinese to give greater accuracy and power to their archers. The compound bow is a mixture of tension and power and when a bolt is released it is exceptionally fast and dangerous. The compound bow is a fun tool to shoot and if you have not shot one then you owe it to yourself. Archery is fun, it is part of our heritage and can still be used for hunting and protection even if it is not as good a tool as some others might be. Go out to a range and try your hand at archery. Who knows you may just be the next great archer!
