Forward Grip Or Reverse Grip?

This question gets asked alot to me.  Whether I prefer the forward grip or the reverse grip in knife self defense.

     Forward Grip            Reverse Grip

So the answer is………(drum roll please)………….they both give you different things that I like very much. :)

With the Forward Grip you have an excellent thrusting tool couple with the fact that if you position the blade properly the opponent has to go through it to get to you.  That is all good in my book.  Even nicer is that you have the extra length of the blade for reach. (that is always a plus)

With the Reverse Grip you can really get some power into your strikes as well as the blade protects your forearm (which is always a plus as well)  and can protect you substantially against some disarms.  Between the two the Reverse Grip does give you more concealment with the blade hiding along the forearm and in a personal protection situation that could be extremely important.

Depending on what I am doing I may want reach or I may want slightly more protection or easier concealment.  There are other factors to decide when holding in a Forward Grip or a Reverse Grip.  That informatioin I reserve for practitioner’s of IRT.  Needless to say though I think anyone practicing with a blade needs to know how to be effective with both.  That way you are always ready.
